There is a trend in brand marketing these days, and t’s been growing in popularity. Companies across the world are starting to take a more relaxed approach to marketing with social media. It’s no longer million-dollar advertising campaigns; but rather bad photoshop jobs, cheesy music, and horrible acting. Check out the Washington Post TikTok if you don’t believe me. These companies have discovered that the trick to reaching Gen Z is to relax worries about brand image and be authentic.

What About the Movie Industry?

On the other side of this coin, only one industry has yet to enter this relaxed marketing space. As seen in the 2020 article on marketing strategy for film and TV the top marketing strategies for the entertainment industry still relies on fancy stunts, and expensive advertising plans. While the rest of the world is relaxing and changing, movies and TV are not. The same stunts have been used since before the rise of technology are still in use today, oversized props, press junkets, and similar strategies.

What is the Future?

The movie industry can benefit from the same strategies being implemented in other fields, with a unique twist for films. Gen Z has shown they approve of simple funny videos and influencer marketing. Why doesn’t the film industry combine them? There are hundreds of small-time influencers emerging on TikTok, creating short funny videos. Give them early access to films and let them create their own “character” to fit into the film, let these creators leave their own reviews. TikTok is pulling some of the most creative people from the woodwork of society, let them have the freedom to make their own videos and not only will you save money, but you will gain brand awareness.
